Strength Training

Course Reflection

This class encouraged students to live healthier lives by promoting changes in lifestyle, habits, and teaching good practices on all of these as well. During class time we focused on a personal strength training program that involved machines, free-weights and calisthenics. At the beginning of the semester, we perform a pre-test that included the types of lifts and exercises we would be performing throughout the semester. We tested what our 1 RM (rep max) was which would allow us to calculate what our program would be, how many reps of each lift to conduct, and at which weights. We would then follow that program throughout the semester until the end where we would conduct another test to see how much we've improved. On average, I've improved about 40% since the start of the semester.

In addition to assignments completed during class, we had to complete an ongoing assignment where we completed a physical challenge every week. These challenges included, but were not limited to: stress management, sleep analysis, increases day to day physical activity by taking the stairs instead of an elevator, parking further away from the building, walking more, etc. These challenges provided insight and training in our physical activities as we go throughout each day. I have learned a lot throughout this program and increased my physical activity because of it as well.
